Producing value-added products, through composting
The current 80-acre Eddyville site includes 16 acres of asphalt for processing and active composting of materials, and 5 acres for product aging and refinement. (Composting on an asphalt surface assures process and environmental control.)
Although the plant has been in operation for only a short period of time, plans are already underway for expansion to meet increasing industrial and consumer needs for the composting process and end products.
Compost markets
Along with providing additional nutrients to the soil, compost improves the soils water-holding capacity, cation (positively charged ions) exchange, microbial population diversity, and tilth.
Horticultural and agronomic uses of the compost products produced at the Eddyville facility include greenhouse, gardening, landscaping, turf establishment, erosion control, and soil remediation.
The composted products are marketed under the name "Chamness Brand Compost."
